FORMER MISSOURI PACIFIC GP38-2 NO.2118 FEBRUARY 6,2010.  Contributor's Pick!
Former Missouri Pacific GP38-2 No.2118 renumbered to 618 rests at Union Pacific's Provo Yard. There's an amazing story to 618, If one travels back in time to 1907, 618 was a Baldwin built 2-8-0 constructed for the Oregon Short Line. Number 618 spent most of its working career on branchlines in Southern Idaho. Fast forward to the late 1950's and 618 worked out of Provo hauling cars of molten iron from Ironton to Geneva Steel. Baldwin built 2-8-0 (UP 618) now works on the Heber Valley Railroad. GP38-2 No.618 shown here is a former Missouri Pacific locomotive built by EMD in September 1974; just a ''YOUNG PUP'' compared to the Baldwin built 2-8-0. Both have a lot in common in that the Missouri Pacific and steam locomotives no longer exist. I would like to thank Mr. James S.Belmont for providing this valuable information.
